Martin Christ Scray was born on 1 March 1867 in Green Bay, Brown County, Wisconsin to Frank and Nelle Penning Scray. His siblings included John, Antoinette, William, Henry, Mary, Petronella, and Odelia.

Martin married Odelia "Delia" VanLanen on 30 April 1889. Their children included Mary, Henrietta, Annie, Winford, and several others who died in infancy.

Martin's wife Delia died in 1908 and he remarried in November 1911. His second wife was Mary VanLanen.

Martin was a farmer all of his life. His obituary was published in the Green Bay Press Gazette on 1 July 1936: "Martin Scray, 69, 221 S. Erie Street, died suddenly in Green Bay hospital this morning after a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at St Mary's church in DePere at 9 o'clock Friday morning. Burial will be in Mt Olivet cemetery. Surviving him are his wife; a brother William of Glenmore; two daughters, Mrs Joseph Vandenberg of Green Bay, and Mrs Carl Matzke of town of DePere.
