The remains of the one-year-old son and only child of the late Mrs. Mary Schwefel Valodin were brought from Indianapolis last Friday night and taken to the home in this place of its grandmother, Mrs. S. F. Schwefel and were interred in the family lot in the new cemetery at 11 o’clock, Saturday, following brief appropriate services at the house conducted by the Rev. W. A. Powell. The remains were accompanied to Athens by the deeply bereaved father, Mr. Charles Valodin, his sister, Mrs. Barbour, and Miss Lizzie Schwefel, who had been called to Indianapolis by the fatal illness of the child, which was remarkably beautiful and exceptionally intelligent. The child’s death resulted from meningitis, superinduced by difficult teething.
