Guarl "Stew" was the son of the late Russell Lee and Nettie Otilla (Wilson) Stewart.

Guarl was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Lee Stewart, due to the Vietnam War and an infant son, Michael Stewart. He was also preceded by four sisters, Margie Virginia Kline and Dante Marie Landacre, Ruth L., Grace Mae and a brother, Harry Stewart.

Guarl married Mary E. Heishman.

Guarl had two step-daughters, Diann Evans and Peggy LaFollette and one step-son, Donald Heishman. Eight step-grandchildren and ten step-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was a veteran of WW11 serving in the Navy, Army and Air Force. He retired as a marksmanship instructor for the army.
