Mary Melissa Floyd, daughter of Michael William Floyd (1833-1919) and the former Dicy Melissa Benton (1836-1920), was born on the 3rd of May 1857 in Texasville, Alabama. Melissa, as she was known by her family, was the only sister of three brothers.
