In an auto smashup in front of Case's grocery store, north of Bemidji, William Hertling died of a skull fracture at the hospital on Sunday, and five others were committed there for less serious injuries.

As nearly as could be ascertained, Mr. Hertling, accompanied by Kenneth Hannah, was driving north, and the other car was headed south.

Funeral services were held in the McKee funeral chapel Wednesday. Dr. Crawford Grays, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church conducted the services and burial was made in Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Hertling was a resident of this city for the past 18 years living with Mr. and Mrs. Joe McAllister of East Bemidji. Mrs. McAllister was a sister of Mr. Hertling.
