Esther Schwartz, 87, of Overland Park, KS, passed away at home on Sunday, January 21, 2007. She was born September 18, 1919 in Kansas City, MO. She married Harry Schwartz on August 20, 1939, who preceded her in death. She served as a volunteer at the American Red Cross, St. Luke's Hospital, and as a 50 year member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue, served on many committees. She was a gracious donor to many charities including American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, MADD and many veterans groups. She is survived by her three children: Richard and Barbara Schwartz, Leawood, KS; Dr. Michael and Diane Schwartz, Chevy Chase, MD; Vicki and Roger Schwartz, West Palm Beach, FL; grandchildren: Kevin Rosenberg, Melissa Schwartz, Dr. David Schwartz, Miles Schwartz, Evan Schwartz, Dr. Mary Hamm, Kaben Schwartz and Matthew Schwartz; great-grandsons: Jacob Hefty and Eli Schwartz; her two loving sisters: Ann Gershenzon, Sacramento, CA and Helen Smith, Danbury, CT. Special thanks to her wonderful caregiver, Kathy Ganther, who helped make her last years more enjoyable, and to Kathy's associate, Traci Hofmeister. Esther was a kind, generous, most thoughtful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a wonderful and caring person to her friends. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone she knew. Funeral services will be 1:30pm Wednesday, January 24, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave. Burial at Sheffield Cemetery. The family requests no flowers.
