Robert Julius Miller, 81, of Bear Lake, died Monday, September 17, 2012, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born April 20, 1931, in Detroit, the son of Otto John Karl and Johanna Marie (Walk) Miller.

Robert was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Marine Corps.

Robert worked as a core maker at Ex-Cello, in Manistee, for over twenty five years, then he worked as a distributor for the Grand Rapids Press for 26 years until his retirement in 2006. In his spare time, Robert loved being outdoors cutting wood as well as being indoors wood working. He crafted many wonderful items, including cabinets and toys. He also built 2 homes for his family. Most of all, Robert loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Onekama.

On September 16, 1952, in Bear Lake, Robert married LaVonne Brunias, who survives him. He is also survived by: 3 children, Jefferey Alan (Ardella Jewel) Miller of Kaleva, Cynthia Lynn (Jeffery) Hilliard of Bear Lake, and Penny Sue (Thomas) Nettler of Bear Lake; 6 grandchildren, Dana Miller, Nathan (Kim) Miller, Jodi Hilliard, Jason Hilliard, Katelyn Nettler and Kyle Nettler; 2 great-grandchildren, Cadence Miller and Brodie Long; his sister, Grace Nowak of Lowell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by: his parents; his twin-daughter, Pamela Lea Miller; his brother, Otto "Sonny" Miller; his sister-in-law, Harriet Miller; and 2 brothers-in-law, William Nowak and Steven Brunais.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 21, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Onekama, with Pastor Ainslie Wagner officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasanton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 AM until time of services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
