He is preceded in death by his father, Spencer Asbury and by his mother, Rhoda Asbury.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 57 years, Minnie “Betty” Asbury; four children: daughter Connie and husband Al Lemmond of Cornelius, North Carolina; daughter Deborah and husband Harold Ledbetter of Knoxville; son Randall Asbury and wife Paula of Knoxville and daughter Felicia (her daddy’s ray of sunshine) and husband Tony Hurst of Knoxville. Affectionately known as “Papaw”.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters. Mr.Asbury was an only child, but is survived by two honorary brothers Mr.Ray Massengill and the Rev. Billy McCool.
Tennessee Tommy, as he was known on stage, performed on the country music circuit, appearing on radio programs such as the Midday Merry-goround and traveling with Johnny Hopson and the Tennessee Valley Boys. Part of his act included comedic routines as the lovable, laughable “Cousin Zeke”.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 pm Thursday, December 21, 2006 at First Apostolic Church, 5020 Pleasant Ridge Road, Knoxville, Tennessee with Rev. Billy McCool officiating. Graveside service will be held Friday, December 22, 2006 at 11:00 am at Bookwalter Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Harold Ledbetter, Tony Hurst, John Ledbetter, Clayton Hurst, Eddie Phillips and Eddie Ritchie. The family wishes to thank the many friends, neighbors and church members who have extended loving arms of kindness and their prayers during this difficult time. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm Thursday at First Apostolic Church. Arrangements by Griffey-Griffey Chapel.
