FLORENCE - Funeral services for Mr. Fredrick Allen "Peter Rabbit" Kershaw, Jr. will be conducted 12:30 p.m. today, Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Trinity Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Florence National Cemetery. He died on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at his residence after an illness.
"Peter Rabbit" and Fred, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was born July 13, 1930 in Florence, SC, to Fredrick Allen Kershaw, Sr. and Cleo Gladys Levy Kershaw. He attended the public schools of Florence County. He served his country honorably in the U. S. Navy for over 20 years before retiring. He was the owner and operator of Peter Rabbit's Brunson Street Grocery for many years. Fred was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Florence, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Emmanuel Kershaw, Sr.; and a great grandson, Hassan Dargan.
He is survived by: one son, Larry (Jennette) Hicks of Effingham, SC; one daughter, Priscilla Holmes of the home; one grandson, Kelvin Montreal Jordan (Joanna Johnson); three great grandchildren, David Montreal Jordan, Kelquan Foe Jordan and Karter D'Andre Jordan; special friend, Dane Clark; Ace Bernard Melton, whom he loved as a son; Willie B. White, whom he loved as a brother; special niece, Alice McClain; niece, Patti Kershaw of Auburn, NY; nephew, Alvin E. Kershaw, Jr. of Auburn, NY; special cousin, Elizabeth Glover of Orangeburg, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 611 N. Brunson Street, Florence.
