Born Dec. 19, 1919, in Louisville to Joseph B. and Katie M. Hazelip Rittenberry, Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; and all of her siblings, Harvey (Birdie), Margaret Gullett (Cecil), Ruth Humphrey (Robert), Blanche Boyd Beck (Virgil Boyd), William (Martha), Cecil (Margaret) and six others who died in infancy.
Bernice was a "Rosie the Riviter" during WWII, working on warships as an electrician at the Baltimore docks, and later worked at Fort Knox until she retired in 1982. Dancing has been her life-long love, and she danced at her 92nd birthday party. She truly lived life "her way."
She is survived by three children, Patricia Joy Bruno Bozorgzad (Mansoor), Daniel J. Bruno I and Robert P. Anson (Keiko); by six grandchildren, Cameron Bozorgzad (Shari), Todd Bruno (Katrina), Tracy Bruno (Cynthia) and Christina, Jessica and Phillip Anson; four great-grandchildren, Nicole and Natalie Bozorgzad, Andrew Bruno and Daniel J. Bruno II; and many nieces and nephews, for many of whom she was the "fun aunt."
The funeral is at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at Dixon-Atwood & Trowbridge Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Arnold Moon officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown City Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and continues at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
