Married Elizabeth Ann Alling on 14 Apr 1774 at the Second Cong. Church (now United Church on the Green) in New Haven, Conn.
The first meeting of the Second Company was held at Beer's Tavern, later the site of the Hotel Taft in New Haven, on the evening of December 27, 1774 as the first entry in the Company Record Book shows. Fifty-eight men signed a memorial to form themselves into a military company. This memorial was dated at New Haven, the 2nd day of March, 1775. The General Assembly then sitting at New Haven made the memorial special business, and on the same day, granted the Second Company a charter.
