She was born in Brady, Texas on October 4, 1933 to Ralph Edison Brock and Lela Bray Brock. Barbara graduated from Brady High School and attended Howard Payne College in Brownwood. She taught school for several years at Imperial, Texas and at Liberty Hill. In 1964, Barbara began a long career with the Department of the Air Force at Bergstrom AFB, from where she retired as a GS-12 Chief Contracting Officer in 1996. She greatly enjoyed her co-workers and her work, and was greatly missed after her retirement.
Barbara enjoyed being a Mom to her six children; Brock, Marnell, Melanie, Roderick, Bradley, and Ralph. Their home was lively and filled with stories, jokes, and teasing. Six kids provided plenty of excitement with emergency room visits, school functions, marriages, births, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She delighted in rocking her grands and great- grands. Barbara leaves behind her children, Brock Bell and wife Susan; Marnell Bell; Melanie Bell; Roderick Bell and wife Janet; Bradley Bell; and Ralph Bell. Her grandchildren that survive her are Lela Burke, Ryan Burke and wife Stacey, Connor Bell, Maeghan Bell, Caitlin Bell, Courtney Bell, Allison Bell; Mason Bell, Erin Bell, and Colton Bell. She is also survived by one great-grandchild, Austin Burke and by her former husband, Fred Bell. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Friday, August 27, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville. Funeral services celebrating Barbara's life will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Pflugerville. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery
