Wesley fought for the North in the Civil War and honorably served in Company B, of the 81st Indian Volunteer Infantry. He marched on Atlanta with Sherman, was at the Battle of Stone River and several other interesting campaigns. By the time he died, his hands were so crippled with rheumatism that he could only make an "X" to sign his name.
