John Bowman Sr. was born on April 2, 1772 in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Brittian. The history of the Brittain family mentions only that "Mary married John Bowman Sr. a farmer and had a large family". John died in Luzerne County on February 8, 1848.

Where is John Bowman, Sr. buried? (Contributions welcome)There is some question as to whether he is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Ancestry message boards from 1999 CALYPGIN states:

"Mary BRITTON, b. ~1772, d. ~1852, Town Hill, Schuylkill Co., PA, married John Bowman c. 1795, together they had eleven children. Prob. both buried Pine Grove Burial grounds." The source of this info is Bowman Family (1886) p.9-10 "John Bowman, Sr., who lived near Town Hill, Pa., was probably buried at Pine Grove burying ground." Bryan Winter feels this may be the Pine Grove Cemetery in Harveyville, Luzerne, PA though he was not able to find a stone for John there.

Bryan Winters: "If he died in Town Hill, why take him to be buried in Pine Grove? Town Hill Cemetery is on the edge of town. I did not find a stone for him when I did my survey, but the cemetery is overgrown and many stones have fallen over. My guess is that he was buried there...I just noted that the name is Pine Hill not Pine Grove in Shickshinny. So I would move him to Town Hill or Pine Grove, Harveyville." John's daughter Permella was buried in Town Hill before his death. "I would go with Town Hill since his daughter is buried there".

So we still have not stone or document to say where he is buried. If you have anything to add, please send me a message.
