Charles Olson, 91, Minot, ND, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at the Souris Valley Care Center, Velva.

Charles Edwin Olson was born on January 7, 1915, the son of Nels K. and Emma L. (Jorgenson) Olson in Brown Township of McHenry County, near Velva, ND. He was raised there and educated in a rural Velva school. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church, rural Sawyer, ND. Charles married Olive Hanson. Olive passed away on October 30, 1944.

He enlisted in the United States Army on February 23, 1942. He proudly served his country during WWII, and was honorably discharged on March 21, 1945.

Following his discharge from the Army, he attended a business college for a year. He then did some carpentry and roofing work for various companies in the Minot area.

Charles married Evelyn Howe on December 2, 1947, in Minot. They made their home on a farm north of Minot, where they raised livestock. In the late 1970's, they moved to Phoenix, AZ, for a short time. They had also resided in Cincinnati, OH, and Nampa, ID, before returning to Minot in 1984. He and Evelyn had wintered in Phoenix, AZ, for a number of years.

He was a wheeler dealer, who loved rummage sales and auctions. While raising his family, he built two homes of which the family had resided in. He had also moved and remodeled several homes.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Minot, and the 700 Club.

Surviving family includes: wife of 58 years, Evelyn, Minot; children, Charles O. (Geri) Olson, Minot, ND, Ruthe (Michael) Odden, Holdingford, MN, Joyce Olson, Avon, MN, Dorothy Olson, Peoria, AZ, Donald (Sandy) Olson, New Richmond, OH, Robert Olson, Seattle, WA, Ron (Taryce) Olson, Upham, ND, and Pete (Jan) Olson, Phoenix, AZ; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Olive; son, Kenneth; daughter, Marion Geiser Ginkel; grandson, Danny Geiser; two brothers; and seven sisters.
