VIVIAN SPENCER GRIFFEY Mrs. Vivian Spencer Griffey , 87, Excelsior Springs, MO, died Wednesday, December 8, 1999, at the Royal Care Center. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 12, at the First United Methodist Church, Excelsior Springs, with Rev. Asher McDaniel officiating; burial in the Masonic Cemetery, Excelsior Springs. The family will greet friends 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Friends may also call 12 noon-8 p.m. Saturday at Prichard Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
Mrs. Griffey was born on August 4, 1912, in Hunnewell, MO, the daughter of Richard & Geraldine Spencer. She had lived in Excelsior Springs since 1930. She was married to Higdon Griffey in Miami, OK, sharing their lives together for over 65 years. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Dexter, in 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Cotorie Club and was an avid bridge player. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William J. & Lola Griffey II, Excelsior Springs, MO, and Richard R. & Cheryl Griffey , Kearney, MO; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Higdon & Clarence Schneider, Excelsior Springs, MO; two brothers, Roy Spencer, Chicago, IL, and James A. Spencer, Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Her true passion in life was her family.
