Carrie N. Merritt, 95, of Chapa Drive died at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Mrs. Merritt had worked at Indianapolis Pump and Tube, was a former clerk at Parker Grocery Store and formerly worked at several Columbus grocery stores, and delivering groceries in a Model T truck.

She was a member of East Columbus Christian Church and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, Bible study and playing Rook.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Ron Bridgewater officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or East Columbus Christian Church.

Born at Hope Oct. 11, 1909, Mrs. Merritt was the daughter of Benjamin H. and Bertha Brooks Whittington. She married Norval E. Merritt June 23, 1928.

Survivors include nieces, Mary Glasson and Maxine Jackson, both of Columbus, Elsie Hege of Hope, Helen Stanley and Virginia Pierson, both of Indianapolis, Marilyn Rohrman and Mary Sorrells, both of Greenfield, and Alice Palmer of Morristown, and nephews, Charles Whittington of Columbus and James Whittington of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 28, 1983; and brothers, Everett and Lester Whittington.

The funeral for Carrie N. Merritt, 95, of Chapa Drive was Monday at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home with the Revs. Ron Bridgewater and Harry Brooks officiating. Pianist was Donna Tull and soloist was Donna Emmert.

Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles, James and Shorty Whittington, John Glasson, Jerry Henry, Mark Hege, Jeff Rohrman and Bill Pierson. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Hewitt, Vance Hege, and Eddie, John and Doug Whittington.

Mrs. Merritt died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Silver Oaks Health Campus.
