He enlisted at Petersburg with Company B of the 12th Regiment of Virginia Infantry. He served much of his time with the Richmond and Danville Rail Road. In 1863, he spent time at Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond and the General Hospital in Farmville. On May 6th, the reason for admition to Chimborazo was Vulnus Sclopeticum, or gunshot wound. On 21 April 1865, he signed his parole at Manchester, which he indicated was his home.
