Elizabeth was a branch of my Erickson family tree.

Elizabeth was fondly known to her family and friends as Jayne. She was born in Seattle the eldest child of three born to Charles and Lucile Erickson. The family moved from Seattle to Preston, Washington. She grew up in the community of Preston, Washington, where her father ran the Preston Mill.

She completed high school with honors and as a class officer. She was outgoing, became a cheerleader, edited the school yearbook, made the honor roll, participated in band and choir, and was a class officer.

She attended the University of Washington where she majored in art. She was in the Tri-Deltas Sorority and worked full time in the summer and part time during school at a bank.

She had an extremely optimistic personality and only saw the good in people. She was strong and feisty with a wonderful smile to match her outgoing personality that could light up any room.

When war broke out, she moved to Yakima, Washington, learned to fly, and joined the WASP USAAF WWII 318th Army Air Force Flight Training Detachment (AAFFTD). She attended Army Air Force flight training at Avenger Field, Sweetwater, Texas January 8, 1944.

Sunday, April 16, 1944, Elizabeth and another pilot, Mary Howson were killed when experienced a mid-air collision in the traffic pattern at Avenger Field.

Elizabeth is predeceased in death by her grandparents; Charles Erickson, James, and Elizabeth Kelton.

She is survived by her parents; Charles and Lucile Erickson, one sister Charlotte Ann Erickson and one brother James Kelton Erickson. Grandmother Anna Erickson, a host of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She will be missed dearly by all that knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held for Elizabeth Wednesday April 19, at 2:00 pm., University Christian Church following burial in Lake View Cemetery Seattle.

Special Note: On April 17, 1944, a forty-five minute memorial service was held. Many were in attendance including all the new trainees for class 44-9 which had just started their first week of training the day after the crash.
