William lived only to the age of 11 months when he, his parents and 2 of his remaining 3 siblings died of diphtheria in 1861. He was reinterred here by his only surviving brother, Edward, at Quabbin Park after his original grave was inundated by the creation of Quabbin Reservoir. His birthplace, Enfield, MA, was literally torn down to create the reservoir along with neighboring towns of Prescott, Dana and Greenwich MA

One of thousands of individuals removed from their original graves in Enfield, Greenwich, Prescott and Dana Massachusetts when the towns were inundated to create the Quabbin Reservoir. Quabbin was built to supply drinking water mainly for Boston.
