Ardmore — Lonzo Baptiste, 71, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Oklahoma City, Okla. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Griffin-Hillcrest Chapel, Ardmore. Interment will follow in Hickory Cemetery, Carter County, Okla.
Lonzo was born October 5, 1939, in Ardmore, Okla., to Robert Lee Baptiste Sr. and Luleda (Ned) Baptiste. He married Gloria Sue Ensharkey on August 12, 1959.

Lonzo was a member of Bowen Baptist Church in Tulsa for 40 years, where he was a deacon. He promoted Southern Gospel Music, traveling with his family music group for many years. In 1979 he was voted Most Outstanding Indian of the Year by All Oklahoma Tribes. He attended Murray State College in his youth. Lonzo and Gloria moved back home to Ardmore in 2005 and moved their church membership to Northeast Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Pedro Garcia Garcia; two daughters; four brothers; and two sisters.

Lonzo is survived by his wife, Gloria of the home; one son, William Victor Baptiste of Ardmore, Okla.; three daughters, Luleda Rose West and husband, Dana of Concho, Okla., Tracy Janine Garcia of Ardmore, Okla., and Jo Anna Gail Cantley and husband, Ambus of Ardmore, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Baptiste; and two sisters, Myrtle Ray Chotkey and Stella Baptiste.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law, Dana West, Ambus Cantley, Dustin Barr, Daniel Blalock, Jerod Baptiste, Tynen Garcia, Matthew Cantley and J.R. Burris.
The Wake service will be from 6 until 8 p.m. at the family home, 270 Banyon Road, Ardmore, Friday, May 20, 2011.
