STATESBORO, Ga. - Lt. Col. (Retired) James Edwin Thomas Sr., age 89, died Thursday at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. He was a longtime resident of Bulloch County and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. Mr. Thomas was a member of Statesboro First United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army, retiring after 23 years.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Thomas of Statesboro; one daughter, Kay Stratton (David) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one son, James Thomas Jr. (Dana) of Statesboro, Ga.; one stepson, George Chick (Terri) of Thomasville, Ga.; one sister, Neta Barineau (Louis) of Quincy, Fla.; one brother, Guy Thomas of Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren, Austin Chick, Kevin Miley, Cari Thomas, Dylan Thomas, Sydney Thomas and Tyler Brannen.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery. Hodges-Moore Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of the arrangements.
