THE DEATH OF MARY FRANCES GARDENER
Mrs. Mary Gardener, mother of Mrs. F. N. Hammel, died at 10 o'clock Tuesday night at the home of her son George at Winamac. She was 75 years old and death was due to a complication of diseases. She was born in Ireland and came with her parents to the United States when a small child and settled in Ohio. Later they came to Indiana, locating at Stockwell, where Mrs. Gardener resided until a few years ago when, disposing of her property, she lived with her children. The children are:
Mrs. Jennie Patton, Springfield, Ill.;
Mrs. Rose Whitsel, Laporte;
Mrs. Elizabeth Timmons, Frankfort;
Mrs. Tillie Bates, Stockwell;
Mr. George Gardener, Winamac;
Mr. William Gardener and
Mrs. F. N. Hammel, Lafayette.
Her husband died many years ago. She was a member of the Unite Brethren church. The body will be shipped to Frankfort today and will be taken from there to Monroe for interment.

Even though the above obit says Mary Francis was born in Ireland, this appears to be a more lore than fact.
Mary's husband was indeed born in Ireland, but Mary was born in Ohio. Five Federal Census all list Ohio as her birthplace. The 1880 census lists her birthplace as Ohio, her father's as NJ and her mothers as Ind. Susan B.
