Verner Oliver Crane, a former resident of Redlands, died of heart failure Thursday, November 7, 2002, at Oddyssey Hospice in Indio. He was 95.

Born December 8, 1906, in Walla Walla, WA, he grew up in Redlands and lived in Redlands for 36 years. The past 7 years he had lived in Desert Shores, CA.

He didn't finish high school, instead going to work as a chauffeur for George O'Brien (cowboy actor) and Lily Burke (wife of Billy Burke). He had owned an auto dealership in Alhambra for 10 years and was a member of Redlands Elks Lodge and the Eagles in San Bernardino. He also spent 20 years working for Bechtel and Aramco in Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Libya. He enjoyed photography and playing poker.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Bonnie Allison of Bakersfield, and Sherrie Singleton of Crescent City, CA; step daughter, Bobette Felton of Desert Shores, CA; and 17 grandchildren. He was predeceased by 2 children Patricia Helen Crane in 1924, and William James Crane in 1999. He was also predeceased by his 2 brothers and sister; Raymond Marion Crane in 1976; Barbara Elizabeth Crane Mann in 1999; Donald Alva Crane in 1993.

He was married 3 times. He married Helen Taylor in Redlands 1925, Maggie Strain in Las Vegas in 1960, and Aline Van Voorst in 1972.
