DELAVAN — Marvin L. Goeken, 86, Delavan, passed away at 4:24 p.m. Wednesday (March 9, 2011) at Hopedale Nursing Home.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Delavan United Methodist Church. The Rev. Larry Moreau will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church, with a Masonic service at the conclusion of visitation. Burial will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery, Delavan, with military honors by his American Legion Post. Davis Mortuary, Delavan, is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church or Hopedale Medical Foundation.

He was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Delavan, son of Charles M. and Margaret Fink Goeken. He married Thelma M. Sanderson on July 1, 1950, in Delavan. She passed away April 17, 2004.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolee Meisinger and Judy (David) Diekhoff, both of Delavan; five grandchildren, Nick Meisinger, Heather Meisinger, Kurt (Jacque) Diekhoff, Eric (Lindsay) Diekhoff and Kyle (Erin) Diekhoff; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold (Mary) Goeken, Tuscola; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Lee Goeken; one sister; and seven brothers.

He served in the Army National Guard for nine years, attaining the rank of sergeant.

Marvin farmed in the Delavan area since 1948 and was a Lowe, Payco, and Garst seed corn dealer since 1949.

He was a member of Delavan United Methodist Church and its Methodist Men, Delavan Masonic Lodge 156, Valley of Peoria Consistory and Mohammed Shrine, Delavan American Legion Post 382 and Tazewell County Farm Bureau. He served on the Delavan School Board for nine years.

He was a minor league baseball player for the Chicago White Sox farm team from 1947 to 1948.

Marvin was a bowling instructor and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame.
