Services for Georgia M. Ashdown, 85, Port Byron, are 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Port Byron, where he was a member. Burial is in Fairfield Cemetery, Port Byron. Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to cancer research for children. Mrs. Ashdown died Tuesday at Florida Hospital North, Altamonte Springs, Fla. The former Georgia M. Shumate was born Oct 7, 1905, in Coe Township, I1L She married C.V. "Onery" Ashdown July 2, 1932, in Mount Carroll. He died in 1982. She received a bachelor's from Bradley University, Peoria, and a master's from Colorado State College. She was a former principal at Port Byron Grade School and former curriculum director for Rock Island County superintendent of schools. She retired as a teacher in the East Moline Grade School District She was a former Sunday school superintendent and a former member of Elsie Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Port Byron. Survivors include a son, Charles Ashdown, Longwood, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Marian Olesen, Moline.
