Sam had served in the Navy in the 1940s and was on the USS GUAM.
When he came home for good, he and Nancy G. Landreth, of Hamilton Street in Leaksville got married on Christmas Eve, 1949 by Rev. McConnell on Washington Street in Leaksville. Theirs has been a long and wonderful union with too many fun and happy times to mention. They were married for almost 61 years.
They moved away from Leaksville in the 1950s and lived for 25 years a stones' throw away from the Chesapeake Bay in Va.
Sam was always a kidder and a joker and could cheer you at the worst of times. He loved to play cards. He loved to cook and made the best BBQ in the world! He was an avid golfer and fisherman until his health no longer let him do the things he loved so much. He was a UNC college basketball fan and never missed an Atlanta Braves game.
He never met a stranger!
