The body of Louis Oscar Brown, 66, was found hanging from a rope that had been secured to a door transom around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, at his apartment at 112 1/2 S. Hart St. in Princeton.
Russell Deffendall, a neighbor, was coming home from work when he noticed the door of Brown's apartment open and saw Brown and the rope hanging over the transom. He immediately notified the Princeton police department and Gibson county coroner, Robert Kendall.
Kendall said the man was a suicide victim. He said the man had stood on a kitchen stool and placed the rope around his neck. "Death occurred around 10 p.m.", said Kendall. There was no apparent evidence as to the reason for the suicide.
Brown was born in Princeton, June 28, 1907. He lived his lifetime in Princeton and was a retired farm laborer.
Surviving are two brothers, Clifford of Mount Carmel, Ill., and Chester of Alabama.
Services will be conducted at Kendall Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday. Captain Gerald Smelser of the Salvation Army will officiate. Burial will be in the Columbia Church Cemetery.
