Leo J. Banasiak, 60, of 201 North Main Street, Knox, died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 1971, in Starke Memorial Hospital. He was born January 12, 1911, in Chicago, and lived in Knox for the past 26 years. He was a machinist at Allis-Chalmers Co., LaPorte. He was married in Chicago to Marie Jasica on May 25, 1935 who preceded him in death in 1961. On October 1, 1966 in Knox he married Wilma Zehner who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Richard of Lamont, Illinois and Phillip of Knox; two daughters, Miss Lois Banasiak of Berwyn, Illinois and Mrs. Gloria Pierowski, Chicago; three stepchildren, Mrs. Robert Holt of Knox, Mrs. Diane Crider of Crown Point, and Fred Zehner of Whiting. a brother Edmund of Chicago, and eight grandchildren. Mr. Banasiak was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of the church and the Polish Roman Catholic Union, LaPorte. Funeral services were held Monday morning, July 12 at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Knox, with the Rev. Emil Bloch officiating. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Harry Price Funeral Home. Burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.
