24 March 1871 Nancy Jane "Sissy" Jenkins married William Alexander Burchfield. Bill was 20 and Nancy Jane was 16. They settled in the mountain country above Jenkins Branch in Swain County. Together they had ten children. Bill and "Sissy" lived in Swain County all their married life, separated only when Bill died 14 April, 1927, after 56 years together. Sissy died 17 October 1934.
