After her husband, Larkin Goddard, was murdered, leaving her with two small children, Catherine lived for a time in the Cherokee institution for widows and orphans. Later she married a white man, Flem Wasson, and operated the Hotel Wasson in Welch, Indian Territory (later Oklahoma), which catered to the travellers who came in on the train. She had 5 children, 2 of whom died in childhood. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation.
