He enlisted in the Ohio 102 Vol. Inf., Co. D., was captured and released in 1865.
After his service he moved to Atchison Kansas, where he became a pioneer merchange and groceerman.
He had a vineyard and became involved in the winery business, and his property holdings were extensive.
In 1867, he married Louise Gribbling, bn 1842 in Coblentz, Prussia, (Ger).
They had eleven children, including twins, Etta and Bertha.
