A native of Vidalia, who succeeded her father, Peter Sheffield Hagan, in the office of Ordinary, or County Judge, of Toombs County, Mrs. Annie Laurie Hussey has been elected to this office for every term since then. Greatly influenced by her father's record of public service, she continues in the fine tradition of her heritage.
Mrs. Hussey was born March 20, 1897, in Vidalia, daughter of Peter Sheffield and Mary Preddy (Holmes) Hagan. Her father came to Montgomery County at an early age, but was born in Bulloch County, July 6, 1863. He was associated with naval stores and in the mercantile business in Vidalia, and in 1910 began his political career when he was elected clerk of the court of Toombs County, which had been formed from Montgomery County. In 1911 he was elected clerk of the Superior Court and four years later was elected Ordinary or County Judge, which position he held until his death. His office administered probate court, from the custom of the old English laws, with protection and justice for all. he served during two world wars and the depression period, devoting thirty-two years of his life to public service in his community, and his memory is held in reverence by all who knew him. Mrs. Hussey's mother was born in Conway, South Carolina, and was deceased on September 22, 1904.
An ancestor of Mrs. Hussey's, William Cone, was a captain in the Revolutionary War, and received land grants in Georgia for his services.

Mrs. Hussey is a member of the State Democratic Women's organization, past president of the Lyons Woman's Club, and the only woman to serve as president of the County Officer's Association of the State of Georgia. Prior to that time, she had been secretary for eight years.

He is married to the former Miss Thelma Butler, and now lives in East Point, connected with the Federal National Mortage Association. (2.) Simeon (Ike) Hussey, was born April 8, 1931, at Lyons, and attended the University of Georgia, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He is married to the former Miss Sandra McWilliams, and lives in Atlanta where he is associated in the advertising business.
