He was born on June 9, 1919 and graduated from Boston Latin School in 1937 and MIT in 1941. He worked for Strauss Insurance Co. in Boston in various executive positions until he retired in 1973.

He spent the next 37 years, after retirement, exploring his many interests including botany and collecting books on natural history.

He was active in many organizations including the Combined Jewish Philanthropy, the Vermont Land Trust and the Ames Hill-Marlboro Community Center. His proudest achievement was establishing conservation restrictions around South Pond in Marlboro, VT. He was a man motivated by his love of the land.
