Garnett Leslie Adkins, age 82, of Christiansburg passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at his home. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served three years he was discharged in 1946. He was a employee of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant having retired in 1984. The son of the late Dewey and Lydia Adkins, he was also preceded in death by a son, Toney Adkins and a brother, Arnold Adkins. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Leona Adkins; four children, Barbara Carroll Adkins, Garnett Wayne Adkins, Eddie Lowell Adkins and Jacqueline Roop Loar; three brothers, Charlie Wilford Adkins, Melvin Adkins, Paul Adkins; a sister, Thelma Adkins; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Friday evening at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Dewey Weaver, Jr. and Rev. Jube Burk. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
