June 16, 1911 - January 17, 2004

Mearlie Manuwal, 15771 14th Rd., Plymouth, a lifetime Plymouth resident, died of natural causes at 5:26 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2004, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.

Mearlie, 92, had lived with her son, Dale and his wife, Carolyn, since June of 2000.

Born in Plymouth, the daughter of Reuben and Emily Singleton McKesson on June 16, 1911, Mearlie attended Plymouth schools.

On March 18, 1928, in Plymouth, Myrl G. Manuwal and Mearlie were married. Myrl died on July 23, 1990.

A homemaker, she enjoyed most of all, being with her family. She loved to sew and usually had a needle and thread in her hand. She made many quilts, lap robes, pot holders and other useful and decorative items.

When she was younger she enjoyed hunting mushrooms. She made numerous bus trips across the United States and liked watching golf on T.V. Her favorite game was Rumicube and she was a fan of Southern Gospel music.

Mearlie is survived by two sons: Fred and Brenda Manuwal, Rochester, Ind., and Dale and Carolyn Manuwal, Plymouth.

Seven grandchildren also survive. They are: Tim and Janet Manuwal; Elizabeth and Joe Bottorff; and Barb and Garry Hartman; Denny and Mary Manuwal, Karen Woods and Mary Manuwal, all of Plymouth; and Vicki Manuwal of Indianapolis.

Fifteen great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren survive as well.

Mearlie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Myrl, six sisters and a brother and James Lee Manuwal, a grandson and Devin Cole Manuwal, a great-great grandson.

A celebration of her life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2004, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral services for Mearlie will be on Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Rick Gaul, pastor of the Open Bible Church where Mearlie attended services, will officiate.

Interment will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in her memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
