Harris, John A., 60, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a two year battle with cancer on January 4, 2010 at his home in Winfield, KS.
Harris graduated from North High School in 1967, was a dedicated servant of the Lord and created and operated the Harris House Inn on east Ninth Street in Winfield, Kansas with his wife of ten years, Jeanie Harris.

Together the two have five children: Aaron and Leonie Harris of France; Ryan and Michelle Overstreet of Wichita, KS; Jenner and Tiffany Cole of Phoenix, AZ; Michael and Johnna Crawford of Haysville, KS; and Zack and Nicole Harris of Hutchinson, Kansas. Including two granddaughters: Indiana Sun Crawford and Hayden Faith Overstreet.

Harris was a dedicated father and guide to his children coaching them through basketball, baseball, leading their faith through church involvement and attending every function with a smile and words of encouragement. He was an involved member of the Winfield community, providing local entertainment and functions at the Harris House Inn, a historic bungalow home built in 1922, which John and Jeanie refurbished and established together in 2002.

He is also survived by his mother, Darlene Shultz of Wichita, KS; father, John and Velma Harris of Wichita, KS; sister, Sheryl and Richard Owings of Wichita, KS; brothers, Jack and Melody Harris of Piedmont, OK; Rusty Harris of Bethany, OK; Scott and Lori Moshier of Meade, KS; and Timothy Shultz of Wichita, KS.

There is a public viewing at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday, January 4, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. located at 4001 E. 9th in Winfield and the family is holding a private burial and graveside service at the Highland Cemetery in south Winfield.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the Memorial Celebration of the Life of John Harris at 2:00 p.m. also on Thursday, January 7th at the United Methodist Church at 1000 Millington St. in Winfield, KS.

A reception including refreshments, reminiscing and memorabilia will follow the service and take place at the Evangelical Free Church, where John was an avid member, located at 3725 E. 9th Ave. also in Winfield, KS.
