She was preceded in death by her husband Sam Joseph Goodman Sr. who died in March 2007, her sister Anita Roberson Flinchum and her brother Lance Roberson. She is survived by her five children; Carol Goodman Todd and sons, David and Mark, S. Joseph Goodman Jr. and daughters Kelsey, Kendall and Kylie, Stephen Michael Goodman, his wife Cathy and son Philip, Mary Goodman Buechner, her husband Mike and sons Zack, Connor and Mickey, and John Phillips Goodman and his wife Adrienne. She is also survived by her sister Eleanor Roberson Smith.
Martha grew up in Atlanta and graduated from West Fulton High School in 1945. She attended Georgia Evening College and graduated from the Academy School of Modeling in 1947. The following year she placed 3rd in the Miss Atlanta contest.
Martha enjoyed modeling at Regensteins, sewing, ballroom dancing, reading, and more than anything loved being a wife and mother and spending time with her family. She was employed at West Paces Ferry Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1999. Martha grew up attending Riverside Church of God in Bolton. In 1968, she and the family began attending Mt. Paran Church of God. She was an active member of the church and after moving to Marietta, often attended Mt. Paran North as well.
She loved her church friends, especially those who were part of the Agape Sunday School class and Mt. Paran North's Senior Adults. She also was an active member of the West Fulton Owl Club where she has been serving as the 1945 Class Representative.
Funeral services will be held on Thurs, Jan 29, 2009 at 11am at Mt. Paran Church of God in Atlanta. Burial will follow at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5-8:30pm.
