Apollo

John M. Rose, 83, of Apollo, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, in Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Natrona Heights. He was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Saltsburg, a son of the late George N. and Alma (McPhilimy) Rose. John lived in the Apollo area most of his life.

He retired after more than 35 years of service from West Penn Power, where he was employed in the maintenance department.

He enjoyed driving and was a former bus driver for the Apollo-Ridge School District and the Apollo Legionettes for several years.

John served in the Army Air Corp., was a member of First Presbyterian Church and First Methodist Church, both of Apollo, and was also a member of the Apollo Masonic Lodge 437.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepson, James E. Gray, who passed in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Ila M. (Davis) Gray Rose, of Sarver; daughter, Margie E. (Keith) Tardivo, of Apollo; sons, George W. (Claire) Rose, of Lumberton, N.J., and Dennis J. Rose, of Boston, Mass.; stepdaughters, Dolly Stoklosa, of Indiana, Pa., Carol (Terry) Heckman, of Spring Church, and Donna Stankus, of Woodruff, S.C.; grandsons, Christopher (Hollie) Tardivo, of Gilpin Township, and Matthew Tardivo, of Fort Knox, Ky.; 10 stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Janet (James) Clawson, of Florida.

Friends welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME, Apollo. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Rick Heisel officiating.

Burial will be in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
