Richard O'Brien 21, veteran of World War No. 2, who resided at 1,000 Earl avenue, is dead, and four of his companions are being treated for injuries, as the result of an automobile accident at the intersection of East Second street and Park avenue which occurred shortly after midnight Thursday.
The injured are;
Ivan Snider, 22, of 1307 Nebraska street, severe fracture of the upper jaw, teeth knocked from both the upper and lower jaws, compound fracture of the right ankle, severe gash over the left eye and knee cap torn from the bone. Condition serious.
Dulcia D. Goddard, 19, of 507 Spring street, broken right elbow and other minor injuries.
Mrs. Juanita White, 20 of 514 East Sixth street, broken right thigh and compound fracture of the right leg.
Merle Hurlbut, 22, 302 Stewart road, minor injuries.
Crashes Into Tree
Police said the accident occurred when the car driven by Snider, with the other four as passengers, failed to make the curve at the top of the hill as it was travelling east. The car struck the curb and then crashed into a tree just beyond the curb.
Impact of the crash nearly demolished the machine. The motor was driven back into the front seat, it was reported. Snider and O'Brien, in the front seat, were thrown into the steering wheel and against the dash board.
O'Brien died at Hershey hospital at 6:35 a. m. today. Snider whose injuries are reported serious, and Mrs. White are still under treatment at the hospital. Mrs. White condition is not serious officials said.
Dulcia Goddard and Hurlbut escaped with minor injuries, police said.
Says Hurlbut Fled
According to the police, Hurlbut made his way from the accident scene before police arrived but other passengers in the car said he had been with the group at the time of the accident. He was picked up a short time after near his home and the officers said he denied being in the car.
Dr. C. P. Phillips, County, coroner, who attended the injured and Sheriff Fred B. Nesper, made an investigation of the accident this morning but were undecided at noon whether an inquest would be conducted.

He was a member of the Musserville Methodist Church and of the John Harold Kemble post Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his mother, his step-father, Clifford Blake, two sisters, Mrs. Audrey Furnas and Mrs. Betty Venghous, and two uncles, Lloyd and Lester Swank all of Muscatine.
Military funeral rites are being arranged with the services to be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday.
