Obituary: Harriet Mariah Grittner

Hughesville - Mrs. Harriet M (Hattie) Grittner, 93, of 40 North Second Street, died early Sunday, November 18, 1979, at Boone Health Care Center, Millville, where she had been a resident since May 24. She was the widow of Charles O. Grittner.

Born Feb. 26. 1886, at Jerseytown, Columbia County, she was a daughter of William J. and Elizabeth C Billhime Wintersteen.

She had been employed for a number of years at the former Grittner Hardware Store before retiring in 1973.

She was a member of the Hughesville Garden Club.

Mrs. Grittner was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Surviving are a son, J. Max of Milton; twin daughters, Mrs. Evelyn L. Reeder, of Chicago,IL, and Mrs. Emily G. Smith, of Hughesville, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McCarty-Thomas, 557 East Water Street, with the Rev. George E Doran, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday. The family will provide flowers.
