Charles was the son of George Wilhelm (William) Grittner and Anna Catherine (Menges) Grittner of Turbotville, PA. His spouse was Harriet Mariah (Wintersteen) Grittner of Millville, PA, daughter of William Judson Wintersteen and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bilhime/Billheimer of Millville, PA.
