Wayne V. Barnes, 68, a resident of Dryden for the past 24 years, died at his home Friday, Feb. 5, 1988, following an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 19, 1919, in Sevier County, Tenn., to Henry and Ruthie (Bright) Barnes. He grew up, attended school and later farmed there.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July of 1941, and served during World War II in the Pacific and European theaters until his discharge in 1945.

He married Blanche Faye Smelcer on Oct. 17, 1944, in Sevier County. They moved to Leavenworth, then returned to Sevierville, Tenn. in 1948 where they farmed. They came back to Leavenworth in 1956 and he worked as a logger for Peshastin Forest Products, Jack Brown Logging and Newell Logging until his retirement in 1981.

He was a member of the Dryden Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Faye of the family home; two daughters, Mary Pollard of Cashmere and Selma Draycott of Kirkland; two sons, Riley Barnes of Dryden and Mark Barnes of the family home; one brother, Troy Barnes of Leavenworth; six sisters, Sarah Styles of Sunnyslope, Hazel Rolen of Sevierville, Ethel Harrell of Cosby, Tenn. and Mary Thomas. Letha Rolen and Myrtle Floyd all of Cashmere; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, James Barnes and Raymond Barnes; two brothers, Willie Barnes and Ellis Barnes and one sister, Lena Rayfield.

Service of Commemoration was conducted Tuesday at Ward's Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bob Hamilton officiating. Pianist Loy Willet played and sang "Precious Memories" and "Victory in Jesus." Pallbearers were Otto Rolen, Jerry Rolen, Roger Rolen, Ron Rolen, Roy Floyd and John Thomas. Concluding services and interment followed in the Peshastin Cemetery.

Ward's Funeral Chapel of Leavenworth was in charge of the arrangements.
