OBITUARY
Blanche Faye (Smelcer) Barnes
Dryden, WA

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Many women do noble things but you surpass them all. Proverbs 31:28-29”

Our precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend was welcomed into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ, August 18, 2016. Blanche Faye Smelcer was born July 27, 1926, the first child of Lawson and Oda Smelcer. Growing up, Faye helped raise her six siblings, as her parents worked in the tobacco fields.

On October 17, 1944, she became Faye Barnes when she married Private First Class, Wayne Verlin Barnes, as he was home on leave from WWII. After Wayne’s honorable discharge, they made their home in Washington. Together, Faye and Wayne had six children: Riley, Raymond, Mary, Ruth, Selma, James, and Mark.

Faye spent over eighty years nurturing her siblings, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by providing comfort, inspiration, support, and encouragement. She took great joy working in her garden and sharing her harvest with her family. Faye enjoyed serving her loved ones by making her famous fried apple pies, peanut brittle, apple butter, blackberry and peach
cobblers, fried bologna and egg sandwiches, sauerkraut, biscuits and gravy, and green beans.

Faye is survived by her children: Riley (Nancy), Mary Ruth (Rick), Selma, and Mark (Kristy); grandchildren: Ken (Sarah), Eric, Kristi (Will), Tim, Angela (Ryan), Corissa, Stephanie, Caleb, Caley, Cameron; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne; sons: Raymond and James; her parents; four siblings; son-in-law, Andy Luedtke; granddaughter, Shannon Pollard; and dear friends, Von and Jane Whaley.

A special thank you to Epledalen Assisted Living Facility and the Cashmere Convalescent Center for the gentle and loving care provided.

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Proverbs 31:30-31”

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016, at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Cashmere, WA, with Pastor John Smith officiating. Private family interment will be in the Peshastin Cemetery,
Peshastin, WA. Ward’s Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, WA, is in charge of the arrangements.
