Larry Thomas Riesen, 26, of 6701 Baer Rd., was killed when his car wrapped around a tree in the 4600 block of South Lafayette Street in the 3:05 a.m. crash.
Police said Riesen apparently was southbound on Lafayette Street at a high rate of speed before the crash. His car went out of control, hit the curb, a sign, and then wrapped around a tree. The car was so badly wrecked that firemen were called to assist in removing the victim.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Richard Bower. He had a fractured skull, crushed chest, and internal injuries.
Riesen, a native of South Carolina, was employed at General Electric Co.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; two sons, Dewayne A., and Drake T., at home; and his mother, Mrs. Hilda Riesen, Fort Wayne.
Rites will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Elzey Home for Funerals in Waynedale, the Rev. Eddie Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Friday.
