Rabbi Nobel was a military chaplain and a Jewish American War Veteran.

Rabbi Nodel was a 32° mason

Lt. (JG) Julius J. Nodel, Jewish chaplain at the Naval Operating Base, Norfolk, Va., also holds Jewish services for personnel of neighboring stations, the Patrol Plane Base and Coast Guard Air Station, Elizabeth City, N.C. and the Naval Air Station, Weeksville, N.C. The Ark shown in the photograph to the right was made for him by men of the Weeksville Air Station. Chaplain Nodel is the former rabbi of the Euclid Avenue Temple, Cleveland, Ohio. Educated at Washington University, St. Louis, Mo., and Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati, Ohio, he entered the Naval chaplaincy in August 1944.

RADIO ARTISTS TO GIVE CONCERT HERE TUESDAY EVENING

Miss Nellie, Julius and Sol Nodel, known as the Nodel Trio, members of the Artists' Bureau of radio station KMOX at St. Louis, MO., will give a concert at the Knights of Pythias Hall Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock under the auspces of the Sisterhood of the Jewish Community organization. Miss Nodel and Julius and Sol Nodel are the daughter and sons of Rabbi and Mrs. Noel, North English Street. The Rabbi is director of Jewish activities in Sheboygan.

Sol Nodel is not only an accomplished violinist but an artist by profession, having many beautiful paintings and illuminations to his credit. He studied at Westminister College at New Wilmington, PA and under Gaylord Yost, American composer and violinist. He was a scholarship student of Max Fishl a the Chicago Musical College.

Miss Nodel, a talented pianist, studied at Westminster, Carnegie Tech and also was a scholarship student at the Chicago Musical College under Moissaye Boguslawski.

The third member of the Nodel Trio, Julius, who plays the cello, is a student at Washington University.

Their appearance on Tuesday evening promises to be an enjoyable musical event Tea will be served after the program.

RABBI JULIUS AND ELSE NODEL SPECIAL COLLECTION
(From Chaminade University, Honolulu, HI)

Julius Nodel was Rabbi Emeritus of Honolulu's Temple Emanu-El. He had previously served as Rabbi in Cleveland, Ohio, Portland, Oregon, and St. Louis, Missouri. During World War II, he served as a Navy Chaplain aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater. He was a graduate of Washington University and the University of Cincinnati's Hebrew Union College, from which he later received an honorary doctorate.

A man of many and varied talents, Rabbi Nodel played concert-level cello, hosted both radio and television programs, and was a much sought after speaker. He was greatly respected for his ecumenical work everywhere he served, and was one of the founders of the Interfaith Clergy Council in St. Louis. Also a successful academician, he served as professor of Jewish Studies at Fontbonne College, and during his time in Honolulu, he was an adjunct professor of religion at Chaminade University, creating a two-year Jewish Studies area in 1986 and 1987.

In 1986 he and his wife Else donated their extensive collection of Judaica, numbering circa 1,300 items, to Chaminade University in Honolulu, where it is available to scholars, researchers, and students. He continued his ties with Chaminade until 1991, when he returned to the St. Louis area. Rabbi Nodel died in January, 1992 at his home in Chesterfield, Missouri.
