Mrs. Mary J. Allard, widow of Joseph Allard, passed away Monday morning at the home of her daughter. Mrs. C. P. Strohm in LaPorte with whom she has made her home for the past year. She had been gradually failing a year or two and was unconscious a few days prior to the end. She was born January 17, 1837 in Sheffield county, Canada, and was therefore in her 90th year. She married Joseph Allard March 27, 1855. They were among the pioneers of Iowa, locating in Crystal township sixty years ago where they resided many years. Eventually they sold the farm and came to Traer which was their home until the death of Mr. Allard on July 11, 1910. Since that time she has resided with her children in Traer, Cedar Rapids, Dallas, Texas, and finally LaPorte.
To this union seven children were born, five of whom survive. They are Mrs. G. C. Elwood, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. C. P. Strohm, LaPorte; Mrs. N . Morison, San Diego, California; Mrs. J. M. Shipperly, and R. B. Allard, both of Dallas, Texas. Six grandchildren four great grandchildren and one brother, G. W. Berry, of Gladbrook, also survive. From early life Mrs. Allard was a devoted Christian and an active church worker, and at the time of her death was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church at Cedar Rapids. She leaves a large circle of friend s in Tama county and other places where she became known. Private funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Strohm on Wednesday at 10 o'clock and interment was in Crystal cemetery. This cemetery is located on the farm on which the couple first located in Iowa sixty years .
