Capt. Stephensen was reported missing over Germany on Dec. 23, 1944. He was a pilot of a B-26 Marauder bomber and commander of his squadron, flying more than 70 missions. Prior to his death he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal with three Silver and two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. Mont graduated from Jordan High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corp in January 1942. He received his wings at Williams Field, Arizona, July 1942 and served as an instructor at Barksdale Field, Louisiana, and Hunter Field, Georgia, until March 1944, when he was assigned overseas.

Mont was survived by his parents and two brothers - one with the Army Engineers (Max his Army brother was born in 1920)and the other with the US Navy.
