One Of The Pioneers E.F. Councilman Answers The Last Roll Call
Was Veteran Of Civil War
Lived in Elgin Township and Seney
For Many Years—Had Been In Poor Health For Some Time With No Hopes of Recovery
E.F. Councilman, a well known pioneer resident of Plymouth county, died at a hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, on Tuesday evening at ten o'clock. He had been suffering with kidney and bladder trouble for the past two years and recently went to Rochester where he underwent an operation.
Mr. Councilman lived on a farm in Elgin township for many years and was widely known. He retired from active work on the farm about ten years ago and took up his residence in Seney, where he lived until two years ago when his wife died. After that he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Peter Van Peursem [died 1958] of Maurice. Besides the daughter he leaves a son, Clarence Councilman, who lives at Gayvllle, South Dakota.
Mr. Councilman was born in New York State on February 3, 1833. He was a veteran of the Civil War, serving three years. Following the war he was married and soon after came west and later settled In Plymouth County. Mr. Councilman was highly respected by all who knew him and had a wide acquaintance in this and Sioux County. The remains will be brought to LeMars for interment. Services will be held at ten o'clock at the First Methodist Church in this city.
