Ambrose E. Allain was the son of Ambrose E. Allain Sr. and Aurelie' Chayer. He married Leona Faucher, daughter of Augustus Faucher and Elizabeth Moreau, 17 Oct 1878 in Kankakee County, Illinois.

Twelve children were born to this marriage: An infant who was born 24 Jul 1882 and died 25 Jul 1882; Walter Alwood Allain was born on 2 Sep 1879 and died of diphtheria on 24 Jul 1882; George Frank Allain (9 May 1881 - 10 Jul 1963); Edna Dyon (28 Jun 1883 - 3 Feb 1918); Emory Allain was born on 13 Aug 1851 and died of diphtheria on 18 Nov 1892; Lottie Allain (twin to Emory) was born 13 Aug 1851 and died of diphtheria on 12 Nov 1892; May Allain was born on 17 Mar 1887 and died of diphtheria on 10 Apr 1892; Hugh William Allain (1 Feb 1889 - 7 Apr 1982); Jewett Allain (19 Jan 1891 - Mar 1982); Aurelia Wools/Webb (2 Sep 1892 - May 1982); Edwin Arthur Allen (30 Jul 1894 – Nov 1985); Chester Ambrose Allain (19 May 1896 - 18 Jan 1990).

Ambrose and Leona lived in the Pembroke Township, Illinois, where Ambrose was in charge of the Kenaga ranch. He was supervisor of the township for 11 years and also acted as town clerk, collector and assessor. They later moved to St. Anne, Illinois where Ambrose was elected to the office of collector. He later served as a member of the board of education and town assessor. He was town treasurer for nine years and the mail carrier on Route #1 for eight years.

Ambrose was brother to Matilda Reeves, Theophilis Allain, Godfrey Allain, Francois Xavier (Frank) Allain, Julia Faucher, Oliver Allain, Angeline Longbottom, Theophilus Allain, Ida Greenwood/Boudreau/Fortier, Edwin Harvey Allain, and Alvin Allain. (Three siblings died in infancy)
